U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AUCTIONS
  1. DOD marketing regional sales
DOD | HOME | GSA |
If DOD marketing regional sales section does not open your imagination up to the limitless possibilities inherent in government sales, Nothing will. The Department of Defense (DOD) encompasses a myriad of locations and
offers a virtual mecca of merchandise.

With the DOD, you can opt for local or national sales. Every single military installation in the country is required to hold a minimum of three surplus auctions per year. Each installation computer logs the items as surplus as they become available. If one of the local items, such as machinery of some type, is available when a national auction is scheduled, it is marketed nationally. If not, it is sold at a sale on the base when the computer decides there is enough surplus to warrant a sale.

There are military bases in every state. To find out when the next one is scheduled, call the bases nearest you and ask for "merchandising" or "base supply". Tell them you are interested in attending their next surplus sale.

The U.S. Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMR) is responsible for the national processing and sale of surplus government personal property from the interests of the Department of Defense. Headquartered in Battle Creek, Michigan. The DRMR maintains field offices in 50 states, with regional offices in Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, Pacific (Hawaii), Europe (Germany) and 20 foreign countries.

Property is declared surplus when it is in excess of a military installments needs, when there are changes in defense needs, when it is obsolete and if it can not be used for any other federal activity. Property classified as dangerous (such as warships, ammunition and firearms) is sold in scrap form only. But other than that, there is something for anyone from any walk of life. I hereby challenge you not to find something you could buy for your own use or buy and resell at a profit.

For advertising, the DRMR offices use the "public notice" or "For Sale" section of local papers, put notices up in the post office or courthouse, and insert ads in magazines, trade journals and "Commerce Business Daily". To get on the National Bidders List, you must send a request to:
